Fraser Coast employers and trainer providers welcomed 160 job seekers at NDIS Jobs Roadshows in Maryborough and Hervey Bay during May.
The recruitment events were held at The Brolga Theatre on Wednesday 26 May and Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre on Friday 28 May, as part of statewide set of Roadshows being delivered to boost Queensland’s disability workforce.
Local disability employers, including Centacare, CPL, Life Choice, Endeavour Foundation, Fraser Coast Time Out, Simple Solutions, Fraser Coast Family Networks, Australian Lifestyle Support Solutions, Southern Cross Support Services, Chance Nursing & Disability Support, Interactive Support Services and Community Lifestyles Agency, attended to attract new workers to their organisation who are currently looking to start their career or ongoing work in the Industry.
Training providers at the events also included TAFE Queensland, University of Sunshine Coast (USC), Axiom College, FIT College, MRAEL, East Coast Apprenticeships, Gateway Industry to Schools, Back to Work Regional Employment Program, Mission Employment and MAX Employment.
WorkAbility Project Officer and event organiser Lisa Steele said the events helped facilitate several employment outcomes for the local workforce.
“Regional events like the NDIS Jobs Roadshows are a great way to connect local job seekers and students with employers and training providers. Feedback from employers shows that the Fraser Coast events were instrumental in identifying local job candidates suitable for employment across a range of roles.”
Mark Lourigan, Manager Economic Development for event sponsor Fraser Coast Regional Council, attended the Roadshows.
He said the Fraser Coast is a thriving region for disability services.
‘The disability sector is fast growing due to how beautiful our region is and how easy it is to get around the Fraser Coast. I have met so many wonderful dedicated people working in the sector and so impressed with the level of collaboration and innovation and look forward to a many more people joining the sector,’ he said.
Eight NDIS Jobs Roadshows have taken place across Queensland as part of a strategy to connect employers and jobs seekers and provide a practical opportunity to fill local jobs.
To date more than 720 job seekers have participated with the roadshows through events and Disability Education Toolkits, 34 training providers and 41 employers.
Another five NDIS Jobs Roadshows are taking place in regional locations through 2021. Locations and dates will be announced during June.
