Successful ‘Pop Up’ shop

The Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday WorkAbility Qld working group held their second ‘Pop Up’ shop on Monday 8th May through to Friday 12th May at Mount Pleasant Shopping Centre. This ‘Pop Up’ provided a great opportunity to connect with the community and promote careers in the disability sector. A member of NDIA was also in attendance to answer enquiries throughout.

Assistive Devices Hackathon – Mackay

The Assistive Devices Hackathon event is a two and a half day intensive making marathon during which people with disability, who have a well-identified need, will work with a team of makers to develop a prototype that can meet that need.

SOUTH WEST QUEENSLAND NDIS REGION

Skill Up – Build new skills and get work ready program

Endeavour Foundation with support from Arrow Energy are running a Work Readiness program in Dalby for people with disability.

The program combines classroom and community-based learning activities with work experience opportunities, assisting students to identify areas for skill development, explore potential employment opportunities, and ultimately enter the workforce.

The program is run 1 day per week, for 6 hours per day over 10 weeks. The program will include 7 in class sessions where the participant will work through the WHS module in a Certificate II in Business. The participant will then complete 3 days work experience in the community over 3 weeks.

IPSWICH, LOCKYER VALLEY, SCENIC RIM AND SOMERSET NDIS REGION

First local working group meeting

The first local group meeting was held on Tuesday 9 May 2017 in Ipswich and was attended by 40 members of the skills ecosystem for the Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Somerset NDIS region. The group came together to begin identifying the key priorities for the workforce plan to address for the region.

Since the first meeting several organisations have registered their interest in being involved in future meetings.

Ipswich NDIS Workforce Forum Summary

A summary of the Ipswich NDIS Workforce Forum is now available to download from the WorkAbility Qld website.

The Ipswich NDIS Workforce Forum was held on Wednesday 5 April 2017 in Ipswich. The forum brought together 120 participants, a cross section of the skills eco system in the region.  Service providers and employers, education and training providers, employment services, government and non-government workers and future NDIS participants had the opportunity to listen to, explore and share insights about the emerging NDIS workforce.

Logan Jobs Launch

The www.loganjobs.com.au website was officially launched on Wednesday 3 May 2017.

The Logan Jobs website has been created by the Logan City Council with the aim of getting more local people in local jobs across all sectors and all skill levels.

The website houses a Jobs Portal, which is a free resource that enables Logan based employers to connect with job seekers in Logan. Jobs can be listed free of charge and are easy to post. Simply register on the site and follow the instructions.

The website also has a Community Notice Board, which includes industry pages and trending careers.

Since its launch the site has received over 750 registrations.
