Roadshows shine at the Sunshine Coast and Redlands

Disability sector employers and organisations were connected with more than 170 potential new recruits during the past few weeks, across two separate WorkAbility Qld Jobs Roadshow events.

At Sunshine Coast TAFE on November 29, and the Redlands RSL on December 4, jobseekers heard about the benefits of entering a career in disability directly from the horse’s mouthes, with employers presenting a broad range of perks.

Representatives from Centacare emphasised the lifestyle benefits of Maroochydore; Alliance Community talked interstate travel opportunities; Compass Institute Inc presented a ‘no limits’ approach, with plenty of work and training opportunities available across the support areas they cover. The career options are endless, and the positions are available.

WorkAbility Qld regional coordinator Natalie Palelei says the roadshows are constantly evolving, and employers return to the roadshows often.

“The aim is not to hire, necessarily, it’s just to chat – your objective (as an employer) is to decide who to make a second contact with.”

Registered jobseekers meet directly with employers for short face-to-face interviews in a process likened to ‘speed dating’. More than 490 interviews were conducted at the Redlands event alone, with 246 proceeding to a second interview.

“There are 44 jobs coming to (Redlands) because of the NDIS – and we’re ready to fill them here, today, at these roadshows,” Ms Palelei says.
