In September 2016, WorkAbility Qld compiled an NDIS Education and Training Issues Paper in consultation with our State Advisory Committee and other key stakeholders. Over the following six months, we have conducted consultations with a variety of stakeholders. The purpose of these consultations was to formulate our advice on any funding, policy, coordination or implementation changes in the Queensland Vocational Education and Training (VET) and employment sectors that may be required to support NDIS jobs.
In general, stakeholders agreed with the content of the Issues Paper and the priorities identified. A number of recommendations were developed to support NDIS training and employment in Queensland. Half of the recommendations relate to proposed changes in the Queensland Government’s VET Investment Plan, with a particular focus on changes to training subsidies and other government efforts to improve VET outcomes. The remaining recommendations relate to the focus of efforts within the WorkAbility Qld project and related work with industry stakeholders.
A key outcome of this work has been an in principle agreement from the Queensland Department of Education and Training to develop an NDIS Training and Skills Support Strategy to be implemented over the next three years. WorkAbility Qld is working with the Department to scope up the proposed strategy and we hope to have more information on this work soon.
