Local expo to showcase careers in disability
Local job opportunities in the disability sector will be showcased next month at the Careers in Disability Expo in Toowoomba.
The free event will be held on Friday 15 September 2017 at the Toowoomba Showgrounds between 10am and 2pm, and will provide an opportunity for jobseekers to learn how they can apply for hundreds of jobs available under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
The roll out of the NDIS is expected to create up to 1,672 new jobs across the South West Queensland region over the next few years.
The Careers in Disability Expo will showcase the diverse range of jobs available and will allow job seekers, or career changers, the chance to meet prospective employers and get practical advice regarding pathways and training.
Local WorkAbility Qld Coordinator Tracy McDonald said the expo is being held in partnership with the Toowoomba Fresh Futures Market and will have a variety of stall holders and seminars on offer.
“The expo is a great way to highlight the range of careers now on offer and is just one event from a list of 15 priority actions that community members have undertaken locally as part of the WorkAbility Qld project” she said.
“The group recognises the need to both strengthen the current disability sector workforce, as well as attract and build a new workforce, to be able to meet the future needs of people with a disability in the local region.”
