Health and Community Services – Plan Your Career Day
As the South East Queensland Region looks to attract a motivated and skilled NDIS workforce, WorkAbility Qld, Centacare, Department of Education and Training and Strategix Training demonstrated the value of a collaborative skills eco system approach to address the recently identified workforce staffing challenges.
The SEQ regional Youth Attraction Strategy was further enhanced as Centacare and DET took proactive steps through the AllevE8 program to attract young people to the sector. Students progressing to Year 12 in 2018 and interested in a career as a community support worker were invited to participate in their joint Health and Community Services – Plan Your Career Day, on Friday 20 October 2017 at Strategix Training’s Coopers Plains facility.
Activities offered on the day included:
- An overview of Centacare
- Blue Roo Theatre Group – A Day in the Life of a Support Worker
- Interactive sessions with Centacare support workers
- Interactive sessions with Centacare clients – find out what’s important to them with the support they receive
- Meet key Centacare leaders
- Sign up for the AllevE8 school to work transitions program for 2018
For more than 50 years Centacare has been providing support services to the people of South East Queensland. With a workforce of more than 3000 people and operating from more than 200 locations, Centacare has now partnered with the Department of Education and Training to offer 40 work placements under the AllevE8 School to Work Transition program in 2018.
Under the AllevE8 program students will complete a Certificate II in Health Support Services or Certificate II in Community Services and undertake 20 days work placement with a Centacare provider. The experience and qualification will help set the young person up on a pathway to work in the health or community services industries.
Centacare will offer employment pathways for suitable participants at the end of the program. For more information about this initiative, please contact Helen Hansen, Local WorkAbility Qld Coordinator on 0438 668 963 or email Helen.Hansen@nds.org.au
