Great incentives to help grow your NDIS workforce
The roll out of the NDIS in Queensland will bring about wide-ranging changes for disability service providers, particularly in terms of the number of workers and the skills and abilities required. In Queensland, it is expected that between 15,900 and 19,400 additional full-time equivalent jobs will be created as a result of the NDIS roll out across the State.
Growing and upskilling your workforce can assist you to deliver new or expanded services and improve your service quality to meet demand, needs and expectations under the NDIS. Organisations can currently access a number of government funded employment and training initiatives to help prepare and grow their NDIS workforce. Some recent initiatives include:
Back to Work – Regional Employment Package
The Queensland Government’s Back to Work – Regional Employment Package (Back to Work) is a two year $100 million package that provides:
- support for employers to build the confidence to take on employees;
- support for regions facing challenging times; and
- support for jobseekers to build confidence, upskill and retrain for jobs in a more agile Queensland economy.
Back to Work initiatives include the Youth Boost Employer Support Payments, the Certificate 3 Guarantee Boost and Back to Work Teams.
The Queensland Government has recently announced the extension of their $20,000 Youth Boost initiative until the 31st of October 2017. The Youth Boost initiative provides Employer Support Payments for eligible regional employers in Queensland who hire an unemployed young person (15-24 years of age).
Certificate 3 Guarantee Boost
The Certificate 3 Guarantee Boost provides eligible jobseekers with funding for training to help secure local jobs. Training may include “second chance” training for jobseekers or workers who already have a Certificate 3 (or higher) level qualification but need new or updated skills to gain, change or retain employment.
Back to Work Teams
Back to Work Teams provide support to regional employers to navigate the employment system. They will work with employers to:
- identify job opportunities and help to articulate the skills/attributes required;
- help them access the available supports to help fill vacancies, including working with jobactive, schools, or Skilling Queenslanders for Work;
- provide advice on available subsidies and supports and how to access them;
- provide advice on the training opportunities and pathways available to increase skills and to assist workers to adapt to a changing employment landscape; and
- support them to work with employees to foster retention, particularly of priority cohort jobseekers.
